This weather station is located on Barrows Road in the lower hills of Oakland, CA. I've often noticed that popular weather apps sometimes show conditions that don't match what's actually happening here. We live in a canyon — the Glen/Gulch of Trestle Glen/Indian Gulch — and I believe our neighborhood's topography creates a microclimate that Big Weather doesn't account for.
This site pulls live data directly from my personal weather station mounted on our roof here on Barrows. It is an Ambient Weather WS-2902. The other nearest stations in the neighborhood are two up by Crocker Elementary on Carlston Avenue and Paramount Road. Over in Glenview there are a couple stations on Wellington that seem to run 5 degrees hotter than mine. You can see a full map of Ambient Weather stations in the area here.
This is not a perfect mounting for data collection. Our home is on the south side of the street, which means the weather station is often in shade until the afternoon because of the hillside behind us. The mounting mast is roughly 5 feet long and projects 2 feet away from the pitched slope of the roof.
